Firestorm in the Heavenlies
Long before Bible school and before I became a Christian I would read; read and think. Why this, why that – why even read some of the nonsense I was reading.
It was the Seventies, still awash with the turmoil of the 1960’s and so many ‘new’ ideas. I can’t even remember what I was questioning or what quest I was on. But there was a stirring in my spirit and an unsettledness that would not go away. So I would read; read and think and question everything.
No matter what I read or what ‘discipline’ I pursued, at some point I would encounter the name of Jesus. When you would blow away all the chaff and drill down to the basis of any argument – His Name would come up. You either encountered Him or turned your head off. So I read and wrestled – with so many ideas and with That Name.
I remember one evening reading Carlos Castaneda and his experiences with don Juan and Mesoamerican shamanism. Wrestling with ideas and concepts in the book, the very room charged with energy and tension, finally I screamed out loud “what about Jesus”!
Something broke. Wow, there’s more here than meets the eye. But how can just words in a book and a name have that kind of power? I didn’t know. I only knew that I had turned a corner and the ‘Peace that passes all understanding’ was there to take my hand and walk me out of the conflagration, a firestorm in the heavenlies.
Four Dimensions are not enough
But what is it? Or who is it? Is it just a mystical spirit realm or is it better seen as the super-natural? I needed answers! I would come to discover His Truth. No mater what angels or principalities or powers you may encounter His Power Reigns Supreme.
Isaiah 48
12) Hearken unto me, O Jacob and Israel, my called; I am he; I am the first, I also am the last.
13) Mine hand also hath laid the foundation of the earth, and my right hand hath spanned the heavens: when I call unto them, they stand up together.
Father God authored the universe with beautiful logic and care. Whether you seek the Truth coming from a scientific point of view or you seek the Truth coming from the theological point of view, sooner or later you come to a point where the two meet in wonderful symmetry.
For me, physics proved to be a good framework to see or picture all the stuff around me. Physicists have always been on a quest to better understand our world’s makeup from the very small to the cosmos. Is everything solid, set, predetermined or is it more light and energy. Just what is all this ‘stuff’ made out of?
I had read a number of the laymen’s books on physics and knew of Einstein’s E=mc2 and spacetime; three (3) dimensions of Space and one (1) dimension of Time – The 4th Dimension. Yet, one thing never set well with me. How could a Holy God, His Angels, the Saints, and Heaven all be rolled into the same Dimension or Realm as Satan, the fallen angels and Hell . . . !
I mean, we will be in Heaven for an eternity. You could try to hide Hell in some corner of the universe, but after 10 or 15 million years someone is bound to stumble over it . . . "Oh my gosh Joe, do you see what’s just up around the corner, what a mess . . . " This can't be. If natural man can ‘operate’ in the supernatural without dying, going there, or being born again, then how is it we don't pick up on more of the angelic warfare just about our heads. There are powers and authorities; so many voices with so many different songs that push and pull at our heart strings. But I can’t see them!
